Overview

Yokosuka Shobuen is one of the renowned iris (shobu) gardens in Japan. It boasts 140,000 irises of 412 varieties in the area of 3.7 hectares. It holds "Hana-shobu matsuri" (Japanese iris festival) in June, featuring live performance of Koto (traditional stringed musical instrument) on every Sunday of the month. In addition, it also features 250 Japanese wisteria (fuji) of 11 varieties; their flowering season is from late April to early May.

Access

- At JR Kinugasa station, take a Keihin-kyuko bus bound for "Shobuen-junkan." Get off at "Shobuen" bus stop and take a 2-min walk.

- At JR Kinugasa station, take a Keihin-kyuko bus bound for "Ikegami-keiyu Yokosuka-eki" or "Shioiri-eki." Get off at "Ikegami Chugaku" bus stop and take a 15-min walk.

- At Keikyu Shioiri station, take a Keihin-kyuko bus bound for "Ikegami-keiyu Kinugasa-eki." Get off at "Ikegami Chugaku" bus stop and take a 15-min walk. 

- Special bus goes between Shioiri station and Yokosuka Shobuen is available during the festival month (June).
